Copenhagen

Early August in Copenhagen can be a bit chilly, but we were lucky to experience the city for a few days in the middle of a heat wave. People jumping in the water and enjoying a drink at a terrace was our first introduction to the city. We realized a few days later, when the weather turned a bit cooler and rainy, that we were now experiencing the real Copenhagen. We loved both experiences. No matter what the weather is, locals are on a bicycle to go pretty much any where. There are more bicycles in Copenhagen than inhabitants! Even if bicycles are a good way to get around, you can walk in the city center fairly easily. A few highlights in the center: Nyhavn, the colorful port and the boat tours, the Strodet area for some shopping, the Cisterns, the Tivoli gardens (especially with kids), and the food scene. Copenhagen is quite a gourmet place with many Michelin star restaurants and the famous Noma. If you want to go outside the city, the Louisiana museum along the water is a must. You may also enjoy the Kronborg castle and the Viking museum. I suggest reading a bit about the Viking mythology, you may discover interesting stories, and realize that Loki is not the brother of Thor but the blood brother of Odin….
